The short version
- There is no sign-up. Bloom never asks for your name, email or phone number.
- Your garden, photos, history, quiz answers and settings are stored on your device. Delete the app and they are gone.
- A photo is sent to Plant.id only to produce a diagnosis. Bloom asks your permission once, before the first scan.
- Payment is handled by Apple. Bloom never sees your card details.
- Analytics are anonymous and EU-hosted: product events and a few onboarding answers, under a random identifier. No advertising tracking, nothing sold.
- This website sets no cookies, so there is no consent banner to dismiss.
No account, no profile
Bloom is operated by Vynse, based in France, which is the data controller for the little data described here. Email us about anything on this page.
The app works without an account. There is no registration screen, no password, and no profile on a server that belongs to us. Because there is no account, there is nothing to link your plants to your identity.
Your photos
When you scan a plant, the photo is sent to Plant.id, the diagnosis service operated by Kindwise s.r.o., so that it can identify the species and detect disease. The diagnosis comes back to your phone and is stored there.
Bloom asks for your consent once, before the first scan, and explains what will be sent. If you decline, nothing is sent, and Bloom cannot produce a diagnosis. That is the whole mechanism of the app.
Photos are used to answer the question you asked and nothing else. They are never used to identify you, never attached to a profile, and never shared for advertising. Plant.id processes them under its own privacy terms as our processor.
Photos you keep in your garden stay on your device. Bloom does not upload your library or back your garden up anywhere.
What stays on your phone
All of this lives in local storage on your phone and disappears when you delete the app:
- Your garden: nicknames, photos, species, health status and the care plan for each plant.
- Scan history and before-and-after comparisons.
- Watering intervals, watering history and reminder settings.
- Your answers to the onboarding questions.
- App preferences, including whether you have given photo consent.
Watering reminders are scheduled by iOS on the device. They do not travel through a server, and they work without a connection.
Subscriptions
Bloom is a paid app. Payment is processed by Apple through your App Store account. Bloom never receives or stores your card number, billing address or Apple ID password.
RevenueCat, Inc. manages and verifies subscription status on our behalf. It receives an anonymous identifier generated for the installation, plus the receipt information Apple provides, so the app can tell whether your subscription is active. That identifier is not your name and is not tied to any account.
Analytics and crash reports
To understand which parts of the app work and which don't, Bloom records anonymous product events, such as a scan finishing or a paywall being shown, through PostHog, hosted in the European Union. It also records a few facts from the onboarding questions, like how many plants you have, your experience level and what first worried you, so we can see which kinds of plant owners the app serves well.
Everything analytics receives is tied to the same random installation identifier used for subscription status. None of it includes your name, your contact details or your photos, and there is no way for us to trace it back to you.
When the app crashes, a technical report is sent to Sentry in its EU region so the fault can be fixed. Reports contain stack traces and device details, not personal data.
This website
Everything above is about the app. This site measures its own traffic with Datafast: which pages are read, roughly where readers arrive from, how far down the page they get, and which buttons they tap.
We run the cookieless version, so this site sets no cookies and there is no banner to dismiss. Instead of storing anything on your device, Datafast derives a pseudonymous identifier from your IP address and browser user-agent. It is deliberately short-lived: the same person visiting on two different days is not joined into one profile.
The site has no login, no forms and no comment box, so there is nothing here for you to hand over in the first place. We run no advertising, embed no third-party ad or social trackers, and sell nothing to anyone.
Who receives what
| Service | What it receives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Plant.id (Kindwise s.r.o.) | The plant photo you chose to scan | To identify the species and detect disease |
| Apple | Payment and App Store account details | To process the subscription |
| RevenueCat, Inc. | An anonymous installation identifier and the App Store receipt | To verify whether the subscription is active |
| PostHog (EU hosting) | Anonymous product events and a few onboarding answers, under a random identifier | To see how the app is used and improve it |
| Sentry (EU region) | Crash reports and device technical details | To diagnose and fix crashes |
| Datafast (cookieless) | Visits to this website, under a short-lived pseudonymous id. Nothing from the app | To see which pages and buttons work |
What Bloom never does
- Sell or rent your data.
- Show advertising, or include third-party advertising or attribution trackers.
- Read your photo library beyond the image you pick for a scan.
- Ask for contacts, precise location, or anything it does not need to diagnose a plant.
Children
Bloom is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has used the app in a way that concerns you, write to us and we will help.
Your rights
Because there is no account, most of your data is already entirely under your control: you can view it in the app, delete individual plants, or delete the app to remove all of it at once. There is no server-side copy for us to hand over or erase.
If you are in the EU or UK, you also have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection and portability over any personal data we do process, and you may complain to your local data protection authority. To exercise any of these, email us, and tell us anything that would help us find the relevant records, since we cannot look you up by name.
Changes to this policy
If the way Bloom handles data changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated. Material changes will also be flagged in the app.
